Why does Omnata recommend live querying datasets?

There are three reasons why Omnata is recommended:

  • Data silos. Certain datasets should not be replicated to applications where they don’t belong. For example, financial transactions should not be replicated to the CRM simply because it’s not the job of the CRM to hold these records.
  • Storage limits. Similarly, these types of datasets tend to be large and cloud applications were never intended to process and store large volumes of external data. Most enforce storage limits, so storage should be reserved for the organic growth of records produced by that system.
  • Latency. Replicating data takes time and application APIs have throughput limits. This means you need to trade-off batch sizes with the frequency of updates. Live-queries return the freshest data.
